UPDATED PRODUCT STANDARD
PS 2-18: Performance Standard for Wood Structural Panels
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) recently updated U.S. Voluntary Product Standard PS 2. PS 2-18 provides information on performance requirements, adhesive bond performance, panel construction, dimensions, tolerances, marking and moisture content of wood structural panels. Major changes include the name of the standard, which now uses the term “Wood Structural Panels” to coincide with the term used in U.S. building codes. Several changes were made to the methods for measuring and representing panel dimensions to better represent industry practices. Uniform load deflection criteria were added for wall sheathing to provide end-user performance, and criteria and labeling provisions for a new Structural I single floor grade were added. The updated document is available through the APA Resource Library. GET >
CONSTRUCTION BASICS
Building Moisture-Resistant Homes
To construct long-lasting homes that stay dry and comfortable, it's essential to prevent moisture intrusion. Most building techniques that prevent moisture from getting trapped in the building envelope are straightforward and easy to implement. APA's Build a Better Home materials provide builders simple construction guidelines that protect homes against damaging moisture infiltration for the key elements of a residential structure: roofs, walls and the foundation. Learn more and download the moisture-resistant construction recommendations on the "Build a Better Home" pages. GO >
