EWTA LogoThe Engineered Wood Technology Association continued its upward membership trend in 2016, finishing the year with 115 members, setting another record in the organization’s history. EWTA’s most impactful accomplishment in 2016 was its significantly increased level of financial support of research that helps advance understanding and knowledge in the industry. EWTA lent its support to six APA projects with funding totaling approximately $90,000. EWTA contributed $40,000 in support of APA’S Fire Retardant Treated Glulam and LVL testing program, $10,000 towards an updated industrial market study, $10,000 on acoustic tests of thick floor systems, $10,000 towards continued hygrothermal research, $10,000 to update outdated OSB and softwood plywood fire spread index data, and $10,000 towards a study on volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions from wood and wood products. Over the past 16 years, EWTA’s research investment -- paid with associate member contributions and program revenue -- has totaled nearly $300,000.

EWTA’s annual Info Fair supplier exhibition— the association’s biggest networking event of the year — drew 80 exhibitors this year, with 60 of those exhibitors signing on as event sponsors. The event was held in Bonita Springs, Florida, in conjunction with APA’s Annual Meeting in November. Member support of the event was strong, with 12 Platinum sponsors, 17 Gold sponsors and 31 Silver sponsors. Multiple sponsorships were also secured in support of the supplier awards, golf tournament, tennis tournament and Cripple Coot Shoot.

Three EWTA member companies were honored in the association’s Supplier and Innovation of the Year Awards, with trophies bestowed based on the quality, service and delivery of EWTA member products and services to APA member companies. Winners were announced at the APA Annual Meeting, and will also be published in the spring 2017 Engineered Wood Journal.

EWTA finished 2016 on firm financial footing. Year-end figures confirm that EWTA had a budget surplus over $12,000 resulting in year-end reserves of more than $170,000. The reserve allows EWTA even greater flexibility in financially supporting APA industry research, as well as technical and market development activities. The association’s consistently robust budget surplus underscores strong member support leading to financial success of EWTA’s three main sources of revenue - membership dues, Info Fair and income from Engineered Wood Journal advertising sales.
